Looking for Love, Hold the Sex

Thanks for your article Some Like It... Not!

I have a friend who is asexual and is looking for a life partner. And thinks he will never find one. Any help?

Are there any other asexual human beings out there in the Palm Springs area who are also looking for a relationship?

Munich Article Brings 'Surprise and joy'

View our poll archive

Months ago I expressed thanks for an editorial, but today I want to say thank you for your wonderful article on Munich .

I returned from Munich last January 16, where I'd showed your photos and article to friends who lived on Reichenbachstrasse, near the Hotel Deutsche Eiche. They are friendly with the LGBT community and some establishments printed and photographed in The Guide.

Your work brought such joy to them because they both are friends with Dietmar of the Deutsche Eiche and have had that kitchen cater in their home! The photos were from places that the wife had visited with a gay work colleague, and she expressed such surprise and joy that those several pages were a major highlight of my great vacation!

I visit the Eiche every Munich visit, but I went twice this year to offer greater support and enjoy the atmosphere.

Rest assured I will always bring The Guide photos to Munich and probably other cities where friends live; sharing these in their city deepened and strengthened my friendship with my Munich friends. Keep up the terrific work!

Why Bash Ohio?

I didn't really grasp why your February 2008 issue had three articles bashing Ohio's anti-gay, anti-sex legislation like it is some sort of third world country ( What's up in Ohio?, Bagging Straight Guys, and Porno Pariahs ).

You quoted some rather obscure cases about individuals that were convicted for child porn cases and then used those to generalize them to show that Ohio is apparently the conservative epicenter of America.

On the contrary, the last elections proved we are a blue state now -- with a Democratic governor and a largely Democratic state government.

For instance, in my city of Columbus, there is definitely a liberal majority. We have an incredibly active local gay organization (Stonewall Columbus) and one of the most well-attended gay pride celebrations in the Midwest just behind Chicago (boasting more than 100,000 in attendance). It is an accepting, open environment everywhere you go in this city.

Rural Ohio is all too often used to personify Ohio as a whole.

It's not like that in Columbus. We have more than 25 gay bars and nightclubs -- and the Short North Arts District is a bustling neighborhood of gay-owned and gay-friendly businesses.

The Advocate magazine ranked Columbus as one of the best places for gay people to live. The city boasts one of the highest per capita gay populations in the nation.

Time Out New York magazine recently referred to Columbus as "the Midwest San Francisco," and the city boasts one of the highest numbers in terms of cities that contribute to LGBT non-profit organizations. So we definitely put our money where our mouth is.

Look at any map of Ohio during the election season -- you will clearly see the Ohio cities of Columbus and Cleveland are virtually entirely liberal and Democratic.

For your magazine to take the generalized law practices of a few obscure law cases in the late '80s and early '90s and twist them into being representative as to what life is like now in Ohio cities is incredibly off base. We are a progressive state.

Disclosure 'Good Manners'

All HIV-positive people should out of good manners explain their situation before they have sex. You know many will not do so. Have you?
