The Ghanaian government reportedly has ordered 500,000 female condoms to fight the spread of HIV. A
pilot project run by the United Nations Population Fund and the Ghana Social Marketing Foundation to introduce
the female condom revealed that the prophylactic was very popular, particularly among young women. An
estimated 400,000 Ghanaians are infected with HIV.
