Queers clumsy of limb, flabby of pectoral, and fat of behind could shine in one competition at Gay Games
V last summer-- so long as they were also fleet of mind. Can you guess which? The bridge tournament.
"With 352 participants from around the world," notes attendee Jerry Keeran, "it was the first and largest gay bridge event of
its kind."
A group of norteamericano bridge fiends convened at lunch during the Games and decided to throw a gay bridge event back
in the home country.
Such was the conception of the First Annual North American Gay Bridge Tournament, now in the cards for St. Petersburg,
Florida, March 5-7, 1999. The Suncoast Resort Hotel, "the world's largest gay resort," will host the event, with its 120 rooms, 34 retail shops,
six bars, two restaurants, a gym, a pool, two sandlot volleyball courts, and ten tennis courts.
Bridge techies take note: the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) has given the tournament a sectional rating. Masters points will be awarded, but
you needn't be an ACBL member to play. For more info, contact Jerry Keeran, tournament organizer, at 813-258-6274, or via e-mail at jkeeran @cftnet.com.
