Remembering Matthew Shepard
It would have been nice to get Matthew Shepard's name correct in "Wrong to Kill" [News Slant, February 1999]: it is Shepard, not Shepherd.

You're right.
Hate Crime Laws Opposition 'Sensible'
Thanks for your piece on hate crimes ["Hate Crimes Laws Are a Bad Idea," December 1998]. It is the only sensible one I have yet to see in print. I appreciate
The Guide taking political stands that are so opposed to those of the vocal "gay community."

Loves Montreal's Strippers!
I am a 27-year-old college student who stumbled (okay,
walked) into the gay scene in January. I picked up
The Guide in one of the clubs and was pleasantly surprised.
I appreciate the attention you've given Montreal, and I understand you featured us in your February issue.
I'm writing to ask if you would feature a facet of the Montreal gay male night-life I understand is pretty unique: the gay stripper bar. Almost every week I have
gone to one of these clubs. I've come to meet some fairly friendly guys (mind you, I'd be friendly, too, at $6 a dance). I think this is great. Some might call it sleazy, but
some of the guys are pretty interesting and can actually carry on a conversation that isn't based on sex.
I would like to see a review of these clubs with photos of some of the dancers and tips on what to do and what not to do.

We feature the stripper clubs prominently in our Montreal feature and with photos throughout the year-- indeed, Montreal is second to none in volume and variety
of danseurs nus options!
And, personally, we find guys who can carry on a conversation based solely on sex pretty interesting, too....
Loves Luke
I want to know more information about Luke, the cover boy [December 1998]. What do I have to do to contact him?

You can drop Luke a line here, and we'll do our best to get it to him.
New Reader Fears Republican Camps
I just read your October 1998 magazine at the Hillcrest Inn in San Diego. I'd never seen it before, but since only one Oklahoma City business advertises, it's
probably not surprising that I haven't seen it in the clubs or book shops there.
As an openly gay ex-marine, I was amused by the "girl paratrooper's" letter and threatlet. (Is "girl paratrooper" a PC term? Don't think so and don't really care.)
I read the columns and editorials (particularly Mitzel's and Dawn Ivory's) with great interest. I've been out of the closet for so long that I've forgotten where the
door is, and I for one don't relish the prospect of being sent in a cattle car to some concentration camp in the Nevada desert to spend my declining years. I'm 43 now
and figure if the Republicans win the next few elections, the shit will hit the fan just as I'm ready to retire. I just hate it when that happens.
I'll look for The Guide when I get back to Oklahoma.

Headed to Prague
Thanks for all the great information The
Guide provides. It's the best travel magazine around! Your information has saved me much money and time by informing
me where to find the action in the cities that I visit.
I'd like to plan a trip to Prague in the Czech Republic. It would be great to see a story on Prague. Bet you have one or two writers just itching to go!
