Considering the reputation of male figure skaters, it's strange that gay adult video tributes to fags on ice are so rare.
In Blades, figure skaters and hockey players cross paths at a rink. Brad Benton, who skates persuasively
well and can sometimes act, is a bit over the top here as an ice queen who looks down on the hockey crowd. ("I'm an artist
and an athlete. They're just a bunch of dopes who know how to skate.") You wait for someone to
shove something large, firm, and conversation-stopping into his mouth, a feat that Ross Stuart, an amiable member of the hockey team, accomplishes with flair.
Nudged off his pedestal, Benton's character becomes more likable; so does his performance. He and his unapologetically promiscuous boyfriend (Bobby Steel) kick off their newly committed relationship by fooling
around with four guests, at least one of whom is a hockey player. The scene is staged with considerable skill by director Derek Kent, who keeps all six participants fully involved without losing the connection between Benton and
Steel. There's also a sex-club three-way involving Steel, a locker-room encounter between cute hockey jocks Jeremy Jordan and Jason Hawke, and a solo vignette for Chris Bolt, who peeks out of a men's room and jerks off
while watching Benton glide across the ice. Adam Rom appears in a non-sexual role (alas) as Benton's skating coach.
