Actually, just impersonating
Miami Beach-- The 14th of July isn't just Bastille Day. This year it's also the date of the 31st annual "Female Impersonators Miss Florida Pageant 2003." Please don't think of this as some provincial Sunshine-State transy shindig. Organizers bill it as the "longest-running
and most prestigious Female Impersonation Pageant in the entire country." And you wouldn't want to quibble with that characterization, what with "over 20 contestants from around the state of Florida," some of them with long, exquisitely-filed fingernails and torsos fortified with
implants of elements off the heavy end of the periodic table. "The contestants will be judged on Evening Gowns, Talent, and the Swimsuit Competition-- always the crowd's favorite," says co-organizer Victor Zepka. There'll be a pre-pageant dinner-- hopefully too late in the game
to add girth to dainty waistlines-- Sunday July 13th, 6pm, at Da Leo's Restaurant (819 Lincoln Road). The pageant itself is the next day, 6pm, at Club Tropigala Showroom at the Foutainbleau Hilton. For more info, contact Victor at 954-761-8300 or 305-502-6000.
