How to order
"As they take the sun from the world, whom relegated the friendship from life," proclaims the
Star Wars-style opening crawl, "but there isn't more pleasant gift of life than this." The
story-driven porn curiosity that follows has the same coherence. We're told that Sultan Ali (Ray Phillips) "can't accept the missing" of his friend and servant Mustafa (Roberto Giorgio). He
sends emissaries to Erzurum, Aspendos, Kayseri, Amasya, and Nemrut in search of his beloved. No one goes to Istanbul, Ankara, Cappadocia, Pamukale, Pergamon, Lycia, Antalya, or Alanya;
Ali's men already turned those places inside out in
Lovers of Arabia, Part 1.
Among four sex scenes, the most entertainingly demented is the one where Sultan Ali squats naked in a white plastic wading pool full of milk, while two Scrunge-wielding attendants
in taffeta nightshirts bathe him. Lulled to sleep, Ali drifts into an erotic dream involving pink, succulent watermelon wedges and gold-lamé loincloths. The overlapping third and fourth
episodes take place at a glitzy hotel where Mustafa trysts with his secret boyfriend (Danny Fraser). Guests and employees hear grunts emanating from Mustafa's room, and become so
aroused they're obliged to get naked and fuck. It's unclear why everyone assumes the sounds are caused by rapture and not constipation.
Since the sex is a bore, the chief sources of interest are the subtitles, which seem to have been translated from the Venusian, and the hats. Some of the latter resemble
head-sized Christmas ornaments; some look like gift-wrapped buckets. The ultra-buffed, pseudo-American, Hungarian-speaking Eastern European cast will be familiar to anyone previously subjected
to director Csaba Borbély's output. Viewers hoping to see how the tale of Ali and Mustafa concludes will have to wait for
Lovers of Arabia, Part 3. Will Ali, once he finds out that Mustafa
has been unfaithful, fly into a snit and have his beloved boiled in oil? Will Ali and Mustafa have conciliatory sex instead? Does anyone care?
