How to order
Gay marriage has been widely ignored by porn producers flummoxed by the phenomenon. But German director Jörg Andreas gives the subject its due in this irreverent, funny, occasionally torrid scrambling of five male couples at a European honeymoon hotel.
Under the opening credits, each successive pair is shown tying the knot at civil commitment ceremonies. (Full marriage rights have not yet been extended to German gay couples, but the available state-certified partnership status does come close.) The principal
spouses, smooth-skinned Mats Riem and fuzzier, more sober-looking Peer Nagel, celebrate their union by sharing a bottle of champagne and the hotel employee (Max Schneider) who carries it up to their room. After a long, luxurious round of fellatio, the happy pair takes turns
stoppering Schneider's butt. Later, however, when Nagel catches Riem sneaking an extracurricular threesome, the incident triggers a fight that sends Riem stomping off with clothes dropping out of his quickly packed suitcase. The issue isn't physical fidelity-- it's the ethics of carrying on
behind a partner's back.
In Heartbreak Hotel, everybody carries on behind his partner's back at the drop of a towel. The half-dozen sex scenes take place in an open field, in hotel bedrooms, on a stairway, in the hotel bar and adjoining kitchen, and in a communal shower the management seems
to have provided to encourage cheating among honeymooners. The sex works best in two episodes involving multiple partners. The cast is an attractive blend of physical types; the technical elements meet the high standards one might expect from a product released under the
auspices of Kristen Bjorn.
