Researchers from Washington University in St. Louis have found that protease inhibitors that help HIV patients can cause diabetes by hampering the storage of glucose. Scientists discovered that human fat cells absorb
less glucose after they are exposed to protease inhibitors, which helps explain the unusual fat deposits and metabolic changes that some AIDS patients have experienced.
