How to order
"If you ask too many questions," says one of the rent-boy interviewees in
Brazil by Night, "you break the client's fantasy." It's also true that if you let voiceovers describing the lives of hustlers intrude on sex scenes in a purported porn video, you break the viewer's fantasy--
especially when the subtitles read, "I don't like most men," or "There are lots of rent boys doing unsafe things." Young men talk about the risks involved in getting into strangers' cars, discuss drug use, and admit turning to prostitution because they've had "no opportunities to do much
of anything else." At times you may wish you were actually watching a documentary about the male hookers of Rio de Janeiro instead of mere failed pornography. The best of three disrupted sex scenes involves three guys who give up trolling for johns and take a cheap hotel room
"to fuck like dogs" among themselves. The real highlights of this 76-minute video, however, are nighttime shots of Rio neighborhoods where working hustlers patrol the rain-soaked streets.
