Those weak of lung or clumsy of breast stroke might dub an event that involves swimming 1.4 miles into Provincetown Harbor as the
"Dogpaddle of Death." Such people have, for 11 years, wisely avoided the "Swim for Life," an AIDS benefit and community festival happening this year Saturday, September
11. But whether you take to water like a fish or a rock, you can enjoy the "Mermaid Brunch" following the swim at 1 pm, or, if you have an iron stomach for things
New Agey, the "Festival of the Spirit of Happiness" at Herring Cove Beach at 5. To register for the swim, volunteer, donate time or mullah, augment the Spirit of
Happiness, call 508-487-3684, or e-mail reroot@tiac.net. Organizers promise that you can't get wet by browsing the swim's web site at www.ptownlib.com/swim.html.
