From Russia With Love
Adam Rom says Soviet Communism made it easier for guys to take a romp in the sack
By Ed Karvoski, Jr.

How does Russian-born porn star Adam Rom compare men from his homeland to guys from other parts of the world?

"Oh, wow, that's a good one," Rom shouts with a devilish cackle. Adorably animated, Rom rocks on the edge of his seat as he contemplates his response. Observing him, it's difficult to decide which is sexier: his dazzling smile or his charming accent.

"Well, first of all I would have to say that the French are a little too soft. Germans are a little too rough. And the British-- well, they are just weird!" Another hearty laugh follows.

In Rom's opinion, "Americans are very cool," but they sometimes allow hang-ups to interfere. "From Americans, I always hear things like, 'We can not have sex with the light on,' or 'I am too fat,' or 'I am too skinny,' or 'My dick is not the right size.' They should just relax!"

Additionally, when it comes to sex with American men, "it's almost like it has to be everything or nothing," says Rom. "At one extreme, if it's someone you just met, a trick, he will say, 'We cannot kiss.' At the other extreme, after you make love, he will expect that you'll get together like every other day and do it again and again and again. It's very hard for me sometimes to explain to American guys that we had a wonderful time, we made love and it was beautiful, but it doesn't mean the next morning we're necessarily going to wake up and be boyfriends." Adds Rom: "That's been my experience in the United States, or at least here in Los Angeles."

For the most passionate casual sex, give him a fellow Russian guy any day. "The way Russians do it, we just enjoy making love with each other for that half an hour or those two hours on that one night, then we don't mind if we never see each other ever again after that. We had a good time while we were making love-- that's enough. Sex happens, it's natural. Russians don't have those Catholic barriers-- that was one of the good parts of Communism!"

Born on April 17, Rom says he's a typically determined Aries. "If an Aries wants something, he will keep pushing until he gets what he wants." He's heard that people of that astrological sign are proficient sexually, but he says, "I don't really like having sex with another guy who's an Aries because it becomes almost like a fight, like we're smashing our heads together. It's sometimes a problem, especially when I'm bottoming. I like to be in control, even when I'm a bottom. Sometimes I'll give in and be submissive, but I can't stand it for more than five minutes."

Rom cites his appearance with Brett Ford in Sex Invaders from Thor Productions as a showcase for his talent as an "aggressive bottom." (According to Adam Gay Video Directory, "Adam tops when necessary, but his best sexual performances occur when there's a dick in his ass.") His other credits include Cum-Bustible, Hot Cops 3, In Man's Country, Rescue 69-11, Rocket Ryder, Take One: Guys Like Us, and others.

Rom also demonstrates his talent in the production end of the business as a video editor. In fact, he edited one of the videos in which he stars, Sex Invaders. "It's kind of weird to edit yourself," he says. "For the first five minutes I saw the image on the screen as being me, but then I just let it go and it was like cutting any other scene. And I didn't give myself any extra time onscreen or extra close-ups, really!"

At the present time Rom believes Sex Invaders is the last video in which he'll perform; he plans to continue working full time as an editor. But, he adds, "I've given up on saying I'm retired for good. Who knows?"

He hasn't found any Russian gents to fool around with in the US, but that's OK. "I date American guys most of the time. For some of them I'm too codependent, for some of them I'm too independent. I guess I just haven't found the right guy who will take me the way I am. But I don't feel desperate about having a boyfriend. I'm fine. I'm happily single."
