The American Way is anchored in Ryan and Taylor's personal relationship. Close friends and former lovers off-screen, they have a finely tuned
on-screen rapport that makes their sex scene sparkle. These young men are alive, wide awake, and probably much brighter that their sudsy self-scripted commentaries ("I wanted to love him so much that I lost myself")
would indicate. There's something going on behind their eyes. And they smile a lot during sex, breaking into incandescent grins as they fuck or get fucked, or beaming beatifically before and after gulps of cock.
The action is simply set up. When Ashton Ryan's mother finds a homocore CD in his room, she packs him off to work for an uncle who runs a men's resort (InnTrigue, which is heavily plugged) in
Palm Springs. His duties are unclear, but he has lots of free time. Ryan appears in each of the four sex sequences, including an urgent one-on-one session between Taylor and Aaron Nichols, which he watches from a
window, masturbating.
The American Way showcases seven unfamiliar, bunny-cute guys of barely legal age, but the real find here is Christian Taylor. An Iowa college student innocent of L.A. attitude, Taylor is an all-American
beauty with a shock of straw-blond hair and a thousand-kilowatt smile. Sexually uninhibited, devastatingly wholesome in appearance, Taylor provides the erotic peaks of this likable, uneven production. Lying on his back with
a puddle of Nichols's semen covering his blissed-out, slightly mischievous face, he's the definitive sex puppy.
