How to order
Midway through this two-cassette Cajun banquet, most viewers will realize that its plot ingredients are never going to gel, and that its outcome will be indigestible. But this is one
of those dysfunctionally story-driven gay adult videos whose erotic elements triumph over the story. Embellished with superb New Orleans location footage,
Deep South is a handsome, expansive sexual epic where every sex scene works. It's the most pungent collaboration between co-directors Chi Chi LaRue and John Rutherford since their 1999 dystopian
fantasy, Stock.
The ten sex episodes, five in each half, are stitched into a voodoo-tinged mystery. Private eye Josh Weston is hired by a Louisiana politician (Race Jensen) to locate his
wayward son, Jeremy Jordan, who has disappeared. Jordan, an elfin blond who could pass for a postpubescent Trapp Family Singer, is defiantly mixed up in the kinkier end of the Big Easy's
queer subculture; his father, an old-money closet case, is unhinged with embarrassment. As Weston arrives in New Orleans, he's fed clues and jambalaya by Jack Ryan, an old friend
whose abiding interest in the private eye provides the principal plot twist. Until the story starts falling apart in a scene where Jordan lies cuffed to a bed in a shack by a bayou, the
narrative sometimes approaches the feel of a mainstream feature film.
Some of the models have no aptitude for reading lines, but all the sexual performances are strong, and some are stunning. Josh Weston, whose rust-red hair accentuates a
chiseled-alabaster body, appears in half a dozen sex scenes; he's paired most effectively with boyfriend Vince DiTonno in the opening segment, and with costume-shop employee Matthew
Rush. A seven-man orgy where everyone seems to be in fugue state reaches classic stature when Jeremy Jordan is picked up and lowered onto Chad Hunt's enormous vertical cock. A
cape-and-mask affair out of Eyes Wide Shut takes less than full advantage of the capabilities of Anthony Shaw, Brad Benton, and Christian Taylor, but it has a similar potency. The
concluding sex episode, in which Weston finds Jordan in Ryan's candlelit lair, is a scorching, bondage-flavored three-way whose power dynamics shift and reconfigure. It's followed by an
unnecessarily puzzling kicker, but you may be too sated to notice.
