How to order
Wealthy, horse-dicked Trevor Halston and poor but agile-tongued Sean Storm, his boat boy and quasi-lover, first appear blissfully entwined in the bow of Halston's cabin cruiser. But as soon as Storm has licked the resulting
semen off his fingers, Halston orders him to clear his belongings out of the master bedroom and maintain a low profile for the duration of a visit from Anton (Brian Hanson), Halston's recently widowed brother-in-law. Predictably,
the greed-driven Anton plots against Halston, but is foiled by Storm. Just as predictably, Halston learns that money isn't everything (just a large percentage of it).
In Playing for Keeps, director Chip Daniels and Centaur Films stray from their trademark emphasis on men in uniform and wander into soppier terrain. The sub-television script is full of clunkily acted
melodramatic moments. ("Stop! That's
poison!") But the half-dozen major erotic passages showcase Daniels's considerable skill at supervising gay sex. Although the queeniness of some of his line readings undercuts his physical presence
just a bit, Halston has genuine alpha-male power and grace-- especially south of his navel. Bryan Score scores as Halston's lawyer; Storm, Anthony Cox, Ricky Starr, Tim Tyler, Tuck Johnson, and Richie Fine provide potent
household help. Not the least of the pleasant surprises to be found here is that the formerly waifish Fine has acquired the musculature and facial definition of an authentic hunk.
