New research indicates that reconstituting thymocytes which appear after antiretroviral therapy in HIV-positive mice are functional and have normal T-cell receptor distribution. The findings suggest that proper
antiretroviral therapy and improvement in thymic function could help HIV patients gain immunity response. In the study, mice were infected with HIV and then treated with zidovudine, dideoxyinosine, and indinavir, and watched for
the presence of thymocytes.
