How to order
Among this fine-tuned road flick's many attractions is hot, 45-year-old Gus Mattox's valedictory appearance in gay adult video. Mattox,
GayVN's 2006 Performer of the Year, has been an essential ingredient in Chi
Chi LaRue's What Men Do, Chris Steele's
Taking Flight, and the Jet Set serial
Wet Palms. A legit actor who came to porn from the national touring company of
42nd Street, he's an uninhibited but focused sexual performer
who handles dialogue scenes with uncommon finesse. At this writing, he has returned to the stage under his original name, Tom Judson, acting in a Philadelphia Theatre Company production of Terrence McNally's
Some Men.
In Big Rig, cast as a trucker whose semi duels with Colby Taylor's sassy red Mustang, Mattox at once embodies and parodies a Tom of Finland vision of hard-bodied, working-class glamor. He makes a star
entrance thirty minutes into the story, then dominates the feature even when he's off-screen. He's in two of the five principal sex scenes: a rough encounter with Jason Crew inside his empty trailer, and a romantic one with
Taylor on a mattress in the back of his cab. Under John Rutherford's direction, both sequences singe the screen.
Taylor, Crew, and others-- notably creamy-skinned, hairy-chested Eddy Mataro as the shallow boyfriend Taylor dumps at an upscale key party near the beginning-- share Mattox's blend of acting talent and sexual
heat. Crew, who's often cast in thankless, throwaway roles, cuts loose here as an amiable nutcase who latches onto Taylor on the road; his three-way with kitchen help behind a rural diner even surpasses his scene with
Mattox. Taylor himself, a sane, accessible, viewer-friendly presence, is Mattox's heaven-sent foil.
