April 2006 Letters

Hooray for Hollywood

I congratulate the Academy for nominating the best films and actors for the upcoming Oscars in spite of the protests and accusations of the religious right.

Bigots crusading behind the banner of religion and morals would take the world back to the McCarthy era where accusations of communism destroyed the lives of many beautiful people in the film and media industries; now their agenda is to deny the freedom to live and love whom we choose, because it is not whom they say we should.

The venom and hatred spewing from these unrighteous twits is tragic in view of the caring and love they wish to destroy, simply because they do not agree with it.

Praise to the Members of the Academy for ignoring this desperate group.

Back Issues?

I love your magazine, so when I saw the Montreal feature, I wanted to read thru it.

I've been in Montreal several times and hang out at The Stud. One of the bartenders is a dear friend of mine, and I see his pic at your website.

Would it be possible to have the print edition with that Montreal feature mailed to me? Let me know if I can give you my credit card number or whatever method you prefer.

Back issues are available for $5 (US or Canadian) by check, cash, or money order we don't take credit cards.

Pope Disappoints

I have long been impressed by The Guide's editorials and articles.

Your January 2006 The Pope vs. Jesus "hits the nail on the head." The uninformed, and indeed unchristian, attitude of Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, carries anti-gay bias beyond that of the more compassionate John Paul II. My heart aches for the many brothers- and sisters-in-Christ hurt by this betrayal and abandonment.

Some readers of The Guide will know that at its General Council in 1988, the United Church of Canada declared that there will be no discrimination based on sexual orientation (nor on other factors such as race, gender, etc.) for membership in the church or ordination to the ministry. It is not a matter of "natural" and "right' versus "unnatural" and "wrong," but rather of "majority" and "minority" sexual orientations, which themselves have nothing to do with morality.
