Director Steven Scarborough returns to his specialty -- leather-and-fetish fantasy vignettes -- recasting the sex as quasi-religious ritual. This handsome study in carnal calisthenics is one
of Hot House Entertainment's best-realized current releases. Its highlights rival or surpass the most accomplished parts of Scarborough's similar recent efforts, including the
Skuff series and Black and Blue, which took the all-sex trophy at the 2007
GayVN Awards.
The principal set, a temple of kink, recalls the sort of Hollywood-pagan environment where Ming the Merciless once tormented Flash Gordon. (Moose antlers notwithstanding, it does
exhibit better design sense than much of the art-deco cheese on the planet Mongo.) Men are shackled here and there; Alex Collack is the centerpiece. A cowled figure prowls about with an
herbal incense wand, dispensing clouds of smoke to purify the space, summon demons into it, or both. In their harnesses, boots, chaps, and leather jockstraps with detachable codpieces, all
13 models look like Stygian deities.

he two-disc "hardcore director's cut" includes five principal episodes plus a supplementary loop that adds a fisting sequence to the final scene. Every segment is a stiff
testosterone cocktail. Lots of thick white spooge gets spattered over rich black leather.
In the kinkiest, most picturesque scene, warm, furry Steve Cruz gets fucked nearly senseless in a swing by Matt Cole and Vinnie D'Angelo. The finale, in which Collack tangles with
Josh Weston and Kent North, is the most impassioned, with all three men at the top of their form as they rut in a sling and indulge in bravura dildo play.
This marks the late Kent North's next-to-last porn appearance. North, the muscular British model who appeared memorably in
Justice, Black and Blue, the recent Private
Lowlife (see The Guide, June 2007), and other Hot House productions, took his own life last July. He will be remembered as a fearless, no-holds-barred bottom with luminous screen presence.
His performance in Communion ranks among his best.
