Compassion for Shanley
Thank you for the article and editorial in the latest issue of
The Guide regarding the persecution of Paul Shanley [The Show Trial of Paul Shanley and
Judicial Travesty, May 2005, available at www.guidemag.com].
I met Father Shanley in the late seventies or early eighties when I attended Dignity/New York. My heart goes out to him for the sham of a trial he received
and the harsh and undeserved sentence. Certainly, he appears to have been abandoned by the Church which he served well for many years. I would like to
correspond with him. I fear he may despair in prison.

Porn Maker's Demise
Since the death of film maker Steve Cadro in March 2000, I have been unable to find out what followed. Was there a trial? Was there a conviction? Does
the accused named "Sanyi" appear in any of the films? Have all the films now been released? This story is so extraordinary I am sure other readers would like to
know the outcome.

No Beantown Baths?
Why are there no saunas in the Boston area? Are they not allowed by city codes or red tape, or is there just no interest or money to be made on them? I
know you may not know the answer but I am just really curious if you have at least an opinion on them.

The stories of saunas and Boston is a long and sad one. The city fathers have de facto banned them. The most recent attempt at a gay sauna, which was
shut down a few years ago, was a 'health club' without any wet facilities in an industrial zone of the South End, by the expressway. It survived for a couple of years,
but was shut by cops after a carefully-orchestrated 'exposé' in the
Boston Herald. At heart, Boston remains a prudish place.
Reads Porn to Build Vocabulary
I read The Guide from cover to cover and share your editorials and articles with many friends. It is great to have any magazine with such an intelligent,
rational point of view, written with a vocabulary much higher than 90% of most magazines of any venue in the USA. I loved the use of "prosaic" in your video views
column! Thank you!

Poppers Slut!
Just read the article on poppers ["Poppers Ahoy!" October 2004, available at www.guidemag.com]. It's true that there is no real information out there about
the stuff. I've considered myself to be addicted to poppers for 20 years... at least.
I've lived in locations and situations where I had no access to the stuff, and I made it through those times without having to endure any more than a
strong desire to get a bottle of Locker Room or Rush under my nose. But I always seem to get back together with the drug. I experience strong hallucinations when I
inhale the stuff, and they are always intensely sexual. The stuff just transforms me into a cock sucking whore. That's simply all there is to it. I love gay sex, but
only when I'm able to get a bottle of poppers under my nose. Strange drug.

Sex Crime?
Thank you for noting the sorry tactics used to bring down the admittedly anti-gay Mayor of Spokane, Washington ["Witchhunt in Spokane," June 2005].
Mayor West may be a hypocrite, but to target him for political and personal destruction because he likes gay sex is as unethical as impeaching Bill
Clinton because he lied about a blowjob!
