Sensitive Liz Story-ish piano music tinkles on the soundtrack as lonely Logan Reed arrives home, where a picture of blond, shirtless Cutter West occupies a patch of wall. West plays Mark, whom Reed
left behind in unspeakable South Fork, Virginia, and whom he misses desperately. "We had a lot in common, Mark and I," Reed muses in voice-over. "We both came from real strict Christian homes, we both had preachers
for dads, we both lived a living hell." Since West has more screen time and one more sex scene than Reed, and since the only journey we see is undertaken by West's character,
Logan's Journey might have been more
accurately titled Cutter's Way.
This is a decently crafted story-driven effort in which each of the four sex scenes advances the narrative in some way. But it's also one of those porn videos that shoots its wad in the first half hour. Back in
South Fork (a Virginia town so nasty that it looks like a chunk of California), the fundies coexist with a subculture of hot gay men who lead active sex lives. Buffaloed by his father, West hasn't found his way into this closeted
gay scene.
The local garage is run by randy old Cole Tucker, who joins his two grease monkeys (Chris Rock and Wade Peters) in a nastily verbal threesome in front of and on top of Drew Andrews's cherry-red
Jeep Wrangler, which they're supposed to be repairing. Tucker's usual intensity gets close to the edge here as he dips his fingers into Peters's rectum and then into Rock's mouth and his own. West witnesses part of this
scene through a window and is reawakened to gay sex. It's downhill from there. West and Reed's eventual wine-by-the-fire vanilla reunion may have you groping for the rewind button well before it's over.
