An American in Moscow
Rating: 2 Stars
Produced by Nicolai Kubachevsky. Directed by Andrey Lev. Starring Zach Richards, Kamil, Igor, Dimitri, Misha, and Edward.
How to order
In voice-over, American photographer Zach Richards introduces Dimitri, his Russian pen-pal, and Misha, Dimitri's new boyfriend. Young, in love, and flirtatiously touchy-feely, Dimitri and Misha walk down slushy
late-winter Moscow streets, throw snowballs, and visit an amusement park. Richards, who describes himself as a "professional voyeur," tells us he's been invited to Russia to watch them have sex. He adds that "to them, variety
is the spice of life," and that they frequent the Underground, "Moscow's hottest sex club... a voyeur's wet dream."
At the Underground, the viewer's voyeuristic needs are at least somewhat fulfilled through the ministrations of Dimitri, Misha, and three of their friends. These models, all in their late teens or early twenties,
are attractive, exuberant, and charmingly unselfconscious. And they love sex, which they have on a cafe banquette, in the shower, in a swimming-bath, and in a sauna.
Richards never has a scene with his alleged friends, or even appears in the same shot with them. He appears in Moscow only fleetingly; we hardly see him interact with anyone. Was his solo, which ends
the video, even shot in Russia? The decor doesn't match the interior of the Underground, where he's supposed to be getting off on the action, and there are distinctly American-looking knobs on the doors. This "American
in Moscow" is a presentable, unremarkable young guy whose presence in this video upstages its real stars, the Russians in Moscow.
