How to order
"What is it with all this dialogue?" frets pornstar Justin Dragon, learning lines for a video called
Paramedics. "Nobody's gonna watch it. They're just gonna fast-forward right through it."
"You know what?" seethes director Vince Harrington, who comes across as Peewee Herman's evil twin. "That's the way it is, because
that's the way I do it."
It's actually the way writer/director Thor Stephans does it; here he does it with panache.
Paramedics is a behind-the-scenes mockumentary that gently satirizes porn production. Dialogue extends the running time to
139 minutes, but the talk between sex scenes is too entertaining to pass up. The cast includes, in (mostly) nonsexual roles,
Harrington's feminine alter ego Lana Luster; drag diva Jazmine as Justin Dragon's "wife"; producer
Dan Cross as himself; and, briefly, Stephans as a coked-out agent. Talking-heads interviews give the cast a chance to poke fun at themselves. "You get sex all the time!" says Jason Crew, explaining why he loves his work. "How
cool is that?"
In this video the sex isn't constant, but it is, on the whole, fairly hot. The first episode pairs models Chad Farrell and Park Wiley inside an ambulance during a break. Later, PA and sometime fluffer Kyle Lewis ("I was
born for my body to be abused for men's pleasure") daydreams his way into a foursome with Dragon and a pair of real paramedics serving as advisors. There's also a nicely balanced, peppery three-way triggered by a photo
shoot, and a sequence in which Cameron Fox is sent to soothe budget-conscious studio head Dillon Press. The sex and the humor don't always mesh, but this is one of All Worlds Video's best releases for 2005.
