Focal Length
Rating: 2 Stars
Directed by Brian Mills and Ed Campana. Music by Rock Hard. Starring Josh Perez, Kirk Alan, Rick Mathews, Scott Hunter, Blake Harper, Gavin Press, and Damon Page.
How to order
Peering through the viewfinder of his Nikon and clutching his crotch, Josh Perez stands on a hillside overlooking residential San Francisco. Below, Kirk Alan and Scott Hunter are renovating a house. When they take a
sex break in an interior space where Perez wouldn't be able to see them, their encounter is not so hot that you forget to wonder whether it's meant to be taking place in reality or in Perez's head. The second and fourth episodes,
in which Perez gets turned on as he develops pictures of tool-wielding muscle stud Gavin Press and cinnamon-skinned knockout Damon Page, move more clearly into fantasy.
This is the premiere feature of Satyr Productions, a newly formed subsidiary of Titan Media. What distinguishes a Satyr video from Titan's usual fare isn't clear, but its purpose may be to break in new
talent. This offering is competently made and shot in warm, saturated colors that immediately identify it as a Titan product. Co-directors Brian Mills and Ed Campana (identified as Dennis Bell in Titan Media's press release)
started out as still photographers. The routine sex in most of
Focal Length does little to prove their skill at directing bodies in motion, but the third and best episode demonstrates their potential. When Rick Mathews eats
popcorn through Blake Harper's nipple ring while Perez, half a mile away, trains his telephoto lens on their antics, you feel you're in good hands.
