Urbana, Illinois The packets of marigold seeds arrived inopportunely in the
Guide mailbox just as leaves were turning and gardeners were packing away spade and hoe. "Cast your seed on loose, fertile soil," went the instructions. "Cover with one-half inch
potting mix. Lightly water twice weekly." Any Biblical parables come to mind? For marigolds were not what the sender was hoping fundamentally to sew, but rather, seeds of Christian faith. The marigold packets bear inspirational messages: "Bloom Where You Are
Planted!" and "Resist/Reprove the heretical and worldly
family-fertility cult." The seeds were included inexplicably as part of a "Public Service Announcement" seeking homosexuals of an Xian persuasion Evangelical, Holiness, Pentecostal, or just
plain-jane Fundamentalist to attend a missionary romp at the U. of Ill. December 27-31. Attend the romp, that is, uninvited and unwelcome but not with hardness of heart. "This is an unofficial, unauthorized call for mission-minded, born-gay, born-again Christian believers
to attend Urbana Missions Week," declared the press release accompanying the marigold
sperma. "You can meet Christian workers from over 200 mission boards or denominations who are working in 800 languages word-wide." If you are as thick of skin as you are
certain of faith, and care to spread gay seed in especially hard-packed, depleted prairie earth, make plans to attend. For more info on the event-to-be-crashed, browse to www.urbana.org. For marigold seeds and "Free Gospel literature for the
gayborn," write Brother Gale at Gay Fundamental Evangelicals, Station A, Box 2095, Champaign, Illinois 61825.
