Montreal-- Some political visionaries imagine a reign of peace spanning the Middle East. Others strive for pan-African unity. Bold free-market economists would take erasers to
national borders in order to fashion pan-American customs union. All this is not by way of carping that Egale Canada, organizers of "Rainbow Visions: Building a Pan-Canadian Queer Agenda,"
have set their sights on too small and narrow a quarry. Canada is vast, as Walt Whitman might have said, so it is doubtless riven with contradiction. The polychromatic agenda-setting,
bridge-building, and fence-mending is set for May 16 to 19 at McGill University in Montreal. In a tip of the hat to Canada's francophones, the conference will be held in Montreal; in recognition
of the nation's anglophones, it will be at the city's leading English-speaking university. "You are invited to join a diverse group of participants from all parts of Canada to define and
discuss future challenges for our communities, strategize together, and collectively build a pan-Canadian 'queer agenda' for the years to come," declare organizers. Contact Egale in Ottawa
(613-230-1043) or browse to www.egale.ca for a registration form.
