The gang’s all at Flex in
Raleigh
|
Several busy gay clubs cluster near the State House in Raleigh. Legends (330 W. Hargett) is the most popular big dance club and show bar in the Triangle for a young, handsome, and mostly male crowd. They have
the finest of the area's drag stars, and the areas top DJ's. Open nightly from 9pm for 18-plus, this is the spot to check out any night. On Monday there's Industrial and Gothic music, Tuesday features cabaret, Wednesday is
pool-tournament night, Thursdays are the all new "Evening Socials for Women," on Friday there's dancing and special events, and on Saturdays join the young dance-floor throng. Sunday brings on the Carolinas' finest
female impersonators. Pride weekend features Abigail on September 28th and Pepper Mashay with DJ Barry Harris on the 29th. For more information on North Carolina Pridefest go to www.ncpride.org.
Just down the street is Flex (2 S. West), "the men's bar of the Carolinas." They pack in the men on Saturday nights, for Sunday T-dances, and for Carolina Bears events (for details on "Bear Trap"). Flex features underwear parties, homo depot parties, as well as hosting the Capital City Run by the Capital Leathermen (e-mail capitalleathermen@hotmail.com). Mondays feature "$1 Day," Tuesdays are
karaoke, Wednesdays bring on country-dance nights, and Thursdays are 18-and-over comedy drag nights.
Other Raleigh favorites include Capitol Corral (313 W. Hargett), with dancing seven nights a week; White Rabbit Books (309 W. Martin), with books, magazines, music, videos, and condoms; and Our Place (327 W. Hargett), with videos, booths, and magazines. In nearby Durham there is
Boxers Ringside (308 W. Main).
