Winston-Salem

Much of gay life here is focused at the dance and show bar Club Odyssey (4019 Country Club Road), which pulls a young and fun-loving crowd Tuesday through Sunday from 9pm. DJ's Gravity and Juan spin high-energy dance music Wednesdays through Sundays. There is Friday cabaret with Cass Westbrook, and shows on Sunday in their Retro Bar. Hot male and female dancers appear Fridays and Saturdays. Be prepared for a line on the weekend-- Odyssey packs in 1000 plus people a night. It's dancing at its best! Be sure to check out their circuit parties the last Saturday of each month.

Other bars include the Satellite (701 N. Trade).

Greensboro

In Greensboro, you can't miss Warehouse 29 (1011 Arnold), a weekend dance club. Home of Tarheel Leather Club, "Miss North Carolina US of A," "Miss North Carolina US of A at Large," and the Warehouse AlleyCats Volleyball Team-- NAGA Team. They will celebrate their ten-year anniversary in spring 2002. They are the area's hottest dance spot on weekend nights. Warehouse 29 offers a variety of entertainment including male film stars such as Chris Steele, Tom Katt, Marco Rossi and Chase Hunter. Recording artists such as Abigail, Erin Hamilton, Sweet Pussy Pauline and the likes of comedian Jerry Halliday have graced their stage. Friday nights are cruise/dance nights with DJ Krazy (18-plus) and Saturday nights are "hiNrg" dance with DJ Jeff Richards. Be sure to check out their new shower on stage.

Other bars include Sky Bar (221 S. Elm), a mixed dance spot; Palms (413 N. Eugene), a neighborhood bar; and White Rabbit Books (1833 Spring Garden).

Asheville

Right along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville is in one of America's most scenic areas.

The town attracts a quirky mix of folk and is a focal point for this mountain region.

In the gay scene there's Scandal's (11 Grove Street). Scandals calls itself "The hippest, most fabulous, exciting, almighty dance club in the history of the world." They are open Thursday to Saturday from 10pm and offer Asheville a great bar and dance club. If it's wall-to-wall men and boys that you want (yes they are 18-plus) then you must be there on a weekend night. It is Southern hospitality at its best. Their house drag-show cast is one of the best in the country and their staff is great.

Other clubs include Club Hairspray and their downstairs dance spot, and, now in their new location, O'Henry's (237 Haywood Street).

If you're looking to meet someone in North Carolina, besides the Guide's personals, there's the Confidential Connection with eight systems in N.C. Get Lucky tonight by calling their customer service line for the system in your city at 800-825-1598 or by looking for their ad in the local gay press, The Front Page (www.frontpagenews.com) or in Q Notes, both of which have updates on local events.
