The vapidization of gay pride events was neatly demonstrated this year in San Francisco where pride sponsor KRON-TV demanded that politician/comedian
Tom Ammiano be canned as co-commentator for the June 26 festivities. The San Francisco
Sentinel's Pat Murphy reports that KRON General Manager Mark
Antonitis's decision was a result of "brow beating" from KRON movie maven Jan Wahl who complained that Ammiano would "politicize" the celebration.
Goodness gracious, we wouldn't want
politics to interrupt vendors trying to hawk rainbow hoopla, the Human Rights Fund auctioning champagne, or
insurance companies and banks demonstrating that they are willing to tolerate us as long as we can turn a profit.
