Arnold
By Dawn Ivory

View our poll archive
Speaking of Republicans, Dawn would like to pronounce an agnosticism about California's new gov, Arnold Schwarz-enegger. True, his Dad was a Nazi, and Arnold himself is a member of a proto-Nazi group (i.e., the Republican Party). But there are a number of silver linings to the Golden State's all-too-cloudy political future. Governor Arnold knows a thing or two about the payoff of hard work and dedication. He has indulged in sex (orgies!) and drugs (steroids, weed, and God only knows what else), and rock 'n' roll, and Dawn thinks people better able to govern if they've proven themselves able to enjoy the present life's more corporeal pleasures (as opposed to waiting for divine blessing in the next life for being a tight ass in this one...). And Arnold supports abortion rights, legal equity for homos, and a host of social positions that are anathemas to the theocratic Right; perhaps some good will come of the GOP having to deal with a powerful player who is not a complete troglodyte. (And perhaps such re-allignment will shake-up a Democratic Party that has garnered progressive support with little more than lip service, trusting folks to be afraid of the big, bad Republicans.)
