According to the Times of India, a urine collection program sponsored by the local agricultural university has people lining up to use public toilets in Musiri, a
remote town in the state of Tamil Nadu. Residents there are paid about a dollar a month to use public urinals designed to collect urine, thereby promoting both
civic hygiene and furthering research into possible use of urine's byproducts as crop fertilizers.
"Many of us started using toilets for urination only after the ecosan (ecological sanitation) toilets were constructed in the area," said S. Rajasekaran, a
truck cleaner.
