Portland, Oregon-- "Queer & There" always looks forward to receiving the bimonthly Coming Up Roses, the newsletter of the Imperial Sovereign Rose Court. In the tedious annals of lesbigay organizational newsletters, Coming Up Roses is a fresh and regal bloom. The court system constitutes some of the oldest gay organizations around, and they take their coronations as seriously as Anglophiles take the kinks and runs in British royal genealogy. "The Radiance of the Rose Begins" is the headline in a recent issue. "Almost 400 people filled the Historic Crystal Ballroom for a Coronation that included a first-- performances by Decade, Double Decade, Triple Decade, and Quadruple Decade monarchs." Who cares what it means exactly, just so you know there's a theology here as thick as the incense at Christmas midnight mass. Roses reports on the imperial fund-raising efforts for worthy causes, and offers nuggets of managementspeak laced with homosexual outrageousness. "Our community has astounding resources that are untapped," declares Shining Dragon Emperor XXX Scoty Devore Foxx about his coming reign, "My chance to partner with Empress Lotta Liquor and the contacts and strengths she brings will make this year even more effective."
