The life expectancy of Zimbabweans has dropped to about 33 years from 67.5 years, concurrent with the HIV/AIDS epidemic, according to the UN Development Program's 2003 humanitarian report. In Zimbabwe alone, it
is estimated that 3,000 people are dying from HIV/AIDS-related illnesses every week, with the agricultural sector being the worst affected. "By 2020, the hardest-hit African countries could lose more than a quarter of
their workforces," UNDP's report said.
