Researchers have found a chemical that may protect against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Investigators found that cellulose acetate phthalate, a
chemical that coats aspirin and other over-the-counter drugs, "completely kills HIV, herpes viruses, chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomonas, and chancroid" in lab tests; they
also noted that the chemical does not harm natural, beneficial mucosal microbes.
