John Ashcroft, the proto-Nazi who serves as Attorney General, has directed all police agencies to "invite" local men of Arab descent in for questioning about their political and religious beliefs. Hats off to the police in Chicago and Portland and Corvallis, Oregon, for refusing this blatantly racist proposal.

"You're asking people what are your political beliefs and what are the beliefs of your friends," said Hussein Ibish, a spokesman for the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. "That is a set of questions that has a dark history in our country."

As Herr Ashcroft has subsequently noted, however, people like Mr. Ibish who question the legality or wisdom of any of the government's actions, are themselves guilty of treason. No doubt, he's keeping a list....
