Congratulations to the Metropolitan Community Church on completion of their $35 million dollar Philip Johnson-designed cathedral in Dallas (shudder) Texas (shudder). With so many people focusing their charitable giving on projects to feed, clothe, and house the unfortunate,
MCC deserves recognition for using scarce resources to create a giant shrine of concrete and glass.
Dawn was amused, however, at the breathy PR material from MCC which compared the "Cathedral of Hope" to Mecca, asserting that the CoH (their term) "will be a beacon for gay, lesbian, and transgendered Christians around the world in the same way the Salt Lake
Temple is for Mormons, Mecca for Muslims, the Vatican for Catholics, and Jerusalem for Jewish people."
Are the sensibilities of Salt Lake City, Mecca, the Vatican, and Jerusalem really what homo Christians are striving for? Alas, it appears so.....
