Dawn thanks the reader who sent a clip about a Kentucky group (or at least one crazed individual) that is publishing photos of patrons of a Jefferson County adult bookstore on a Web site. The group, calling itself War-Line, has been videotaping people as they enter and leave Pure Pleasure, (3299 Fern Valley Road, 502/964-3422-- tell
'em Dawn sent you) in an effort to intimidate and discourage patrons. The leader of the group, John Reneer, is on the Kentucky State Police's sex-offender registry; according to local press reports, Reneer served over 25 years in prison for armed robbery and "sodomy," the later charge being, presumably, the one that requires him to register
for life as a threat to Bluegrass state residents.
"We believe everybody has a right to their opinion and everybody has a right to protest," Pure Pleasure owner Don Kleinhans sensibly notes. But he said Reneer "needs help."
Reneer said he's doing it because "pornography creates callous attitudes toward women, promotes casual sex and violence against women." He has also claimed that porn drove him to his life of crime (again, presumably the sodomy part, not the armed robbery schtick).
