Sad news from north of the border: infected with the fever that so inflames her overfed, southern neighbor, the new Conservative government in Canada has announced plans to
raise the age of consent from 14 to 16; prime minister Stephen Harper also includes longer and more mandatory prison terms, harsher restrictions on parole, fewer house arrest options,
blah blah blah, in his "tough on crime" package being peddled to gullible Canadians.
Does anyone besides Dawn notice that when thumping their anti-crime chests, politicians always target Negroes (witness the Draconian penalties for crack) or queers (witness
the criminalization of consensual sex), but never corporate embezzlers who make off with billions or legislators who sell votes in exchange for campaign contributions?
While über-rich corporate interests, and their political tools like Bush and Harper, are fleecing the public treasury, they must distract the public-- "Look! A swarthy man
skulking! Watch out! A homo is after your Webelo!"
